Memorial Day Thoughts – Lake Terrace resident Marylouise Felhofer
On Memorial Day, I always fondly remember my parents who instilled in me the obligation to provide serve to the country that gave us so much. As the children of immigrants, they provided service during WWII. My dad served in the U.S. Navy and my mom served as a Gray Lady Volunteer with the Red Cross at the Milwaukee VA Hospital. I had the great fortune to carry on my dad’s Navy tradition through my service in the Navy Nurse Corps and he lived long enough to see me reach the rank of Captain. Following my Navy retirement, I worked at the Milwaukee VA Hospital carrying on my mom’s tradition of service there. I have been extremely fortunate and humbled to be able to work with and care for so many who have given so much to preserve the freedoms that we all enjoy.
