Shorehaven paid tribute to its mighty volunteer force April 16 when more than 100 Shorehaven Service League of Volunteers members gathered at Rockwell’s Restaurant for the annual appreciation brunch. Volunteer Services Manager Kris Gallert noted that 245 volunteers recorded more than 14,000  hours of service in 2023. Gallert told those gathered, “Thank you for all you bring to Shorehaven and our residents. Thank you for your time and talent devoted to enhancing resident lives.”

Volunteers assist at the Forgotten Treasures Resale Shop, with the Tree of Love, Chapel, Bingo, resident trips and mail delivery; campus libraries, Corner Store, work with Happy Hour, ceramics, and cards and games activities. Special event volunteers help execute Homecoming, Halloween, fashion and car shows, family picnics and pontoon outings. Volunteers mend and sew for residents, drive the trishaw and bring visiting dogs. Volunteers also escort to physical therapy and the beauty shop. Through the Service League’s fund-raising efforts, pontoon boats, buses, mobility chairs, additional furniture, courtyard shade structures, fitness center equipment, the Service League Pavilion, therapeutic elliptical bicycles and Chapel furnishings have been purchased.

Service League officers were installed, including, Karen Jensen, Deb Jaeger, Lorna Gartzke, Sandy St. George, Judy Holland and Sharon Manke. Service League President Sharon Manke presented a check to Dir. of Development Jalane Sauer for $12,000 for Shorehaven’s Foundation. “When I ask volunteers why they chose Shorehaven,” said Sauer, “They always say it’s because of the people here.”

“I am grateful that you have decided to invest your time at Shorehaven, upholding our mission,” concluded Gallert.
