December 15 we will gather for the annual Tally of Hearts. We will be honoring and remembering those we love, but also celebrating reaching our goal of $18,000+ for the purchase of 5 Broda chairs. The word tally comes from the Latin word for “stick” because people used to keep a tally by marking a stick. Therefore a tally is to simply total something, to count or to keep record of. For me, the Tally of Hearts is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and tally or count our many blessings. For some, this may remind you of the 1954 White Christmas song “Count your Blessings (not sheep)”. For me, I think of the 1897 hymn “Count Your Blessings” in which the chorus reads, Count your blessings; name them one by one. Count your blessings; see what God hath done. It can be easy to take a negative view of things in our lives, but when we pause to reflect on the goodness that surrounds us and all that we have been given, we cannot deny that we are blessed. Shorehaven is indeed blessed! We are blessed with a remarkable team of generous and compassionate volunteers. I hope each of our volunteers realize what a blessing they are, and what an impact they make on the lives of our residents, staff and one another.

Continued blessings,

Kris G., Manager of Volunteer Services
